I hope and pray all of you have a safe and happy Fourth of July. Today is a day to spend with family and friends remembering why we are free. not only that but one of the best freedoms we have is the freedom to love God and worship God open and freely. Don’t forget that there are many, many people in this world that don”t have that.

I took this picture at the noon service at Highland. This is a group of young people, Navigate and Saturate students who chose to give up their summer vacation to learn and serve. They gathered up in the front for worship, they were not asked to do this, they asked if they could. As I watched them, I thought this is what it’s about. This is what worship is suppose to be…..full one, all in worship. These kids jump, dive and go crazy over their love for Jesus…..check it out:

Get your praise on!!!!!!!!!!!

Prison food????

So today my boy, Reggie and I headed out early to make a trip to B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn Correctional Institute for a little time with the inmates and to make sure they know what is available to them upon their release. Normally I opt out of the chow line and wait until I make it to the free land to get food, but today I had my recently married, fixing to go on my out of the country honey moon, cheap-o-depot pal with me, so we ate in the chow hall. Now remember that the good, tax payer people don’t like spending money on prisoners, so they have had to look to “other” means of cheap food. like growing most of the food in house, raising cattle on the grounds, a pretty neat ideas really. Well today, we had beef brisket that was fresh from the “market” a great salad and then they bust out the dessert a thing they called “baked Alaska” ice cream on a piece of cake covered in egg whites and it had this flower on the side. I thought it was a cool little decoration….wrong…they told us we could eat the flower, we started looking around and BAM people are eating the flowers, it was a real flower, ot one made of frosting: check it out:

want a bite????

cool story

to read a cool story about me and a new friend go to my blogroll on the side bar and click on Carole Turners name! She is a great writer. She is a great writer!

“God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called”

Hundreds of inmates are released with just a bus ticket, a $10.00 check, they can’t cash because they have no ID and a sack of their belongings. Most have no one waiting for them at the gate. Now problems have just begun, things like:

  • Finding a place to stay
  • Where to find a job?
  • Need some type of transportation

But it doesn’t have to be that way … because a mentor can make a difference! Almost 60% of those released will be back within 3 years,

All because no one cared enough

We are working together to bring to the inmates the education and life skills they need to be successful when they leave the prison. It is all centered on Jesus, but has aspects such as values training, substance abuse and financial planning as well.

One of our most immediate needs is for Coaches/Mentors. We have men who will be leaving as soon as today!

We are looking for men to coach males 2 times a month or more.
Because of the nature of the program, we have almost unlimited access to the men at any time of day, so there is a lot of freedom to choose when to visit. We need people who can commit to maintaining contact with the guys for at least 3 months.

Christ once asked his disciples, “When I was in prison, did you visit me?” They replied by asking him when were you ever in prison? He responded that if they’d never visited the “least of these,” their sin was as great as if they’d failed to visit Christ himself.

Tough Day:

This morning, my alarm goes off at 2:00AM. Today was my first day as a part time, package handler for UPS. Yea they start really early…after my first day I am never shipping another package for as long as I live!!! I unloaded 4 tractor trailers full from front to back, bottom to top with boxes. Non stop action for 5 hours. I got off at 7:30AM. I could barely make it to my explorer. I have never worked so hard in my life. I guess doing office work for the last 7 years has set in, my body did not know what to do other than shut down which it did that almost from the start. I Pray that I get use to this. The way I look at it, instead of paying $70.00 a month at the gym I get to make $1500.00 and still work out 5 hours a day. I wanted to go meet Jesus this morning BAD! I actually asked him to take me home, like Fred Sanford use to do!!!!!! OOO (whatever her name was) i am coming to meet you……yea yea yea. Pray that I make it another day!

Here is the Story of Fathers day:

Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a “father’s day” in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. William Smart, a Civil war veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd’s mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington State. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.

The first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. At about the same time in various towns and cities across America other people were beginning to celebrate a “father’s day”. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father’s Day. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Jonson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day.

Father’s Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father’s Day.

thing called life!

Yesterday my boy Reggie and I decided to try and help a sista out! As we rolled down to the area where we knew this girl “worked” we chatted up like ol’ chums, never really thinking about the danger of busting up on some “girls of the night” at 11AM. we only want to help! We find her and a friend walking down the street and we roll up on em we start talking, then she knows who we are, it takes a few minutes but as soon as she told her friend they from the church, she rolled on out. enter PIMP MAN! God spoke to us to help this girl, God gave Reggie a word to speak to her, words of encouragement, words of beauty, words of life!!! Why could God not give us a word to speak to the PIMP! This Brother was not happy he was down right mad, cursing us, kept asking why we just kept staring at him. Reggie and I think God would not let us turn away because at the time, we needed to be crazier than the pimp.  Never a dull moment! never!!!! Pray for these girls, Pray for that pimp! this is who Jesus hung out with!

Someone spray-painted words like “KKK” and the “N” word using fluorescent orange paint. It’s on trailers, on the streets

Danielle Bates says she called the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office to try and get something done. We checked with them and they told 9NEWS they couldn’t find enough evidence to press charges, and said they aren’t even sure if this is a hate crime. Meanwhile, the threats didn’t just stay outside. Inside, Bates received a message on her phone. ….see this link to read the whole story…….

now remember that the a neighbor was seen yielding an ax in the street…… allegedly

“not sure it’s a hate crime” white people spray paint your house…your black…….??????

I am moving to a smarter parish……….this makes me sick!!!!!!
